Dr. Cook’s treatments emphasize the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and its successor Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). CBT and ACT are research-proven approaches that help people relate to their negative emotions such as anxiety and depression in more productive ways.
A large portion of John’s work is with people who have post-traumatic stress from work-related incidents including military service, the impact of crime, domestic violence or abuse as a child. He uses a trauma desensitization treatment called prolonged exposure, in addition to eye movement therapies called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and One Eye Integration (OEI).
